Reflecting Forward to What’s Coming

Thought about where you’ll be or what you’ll be doing in 2020? Perhaps you just want to deal with today, for it’s enough to deal with (Matthew 6:34).

But as we’ll look back from 2020 we’ll undoubtedly think 2004 was a long way back. We’ll begin to refer to things we did in the 1990s as those that occurred, “Last century.”

From here, 2004 doesn’t seem so far back. Our memory of it is clearer now than what it’ll be in 2020. Some ‘important’ things will be shoved aside in our minds.

The truth is we don’t know what’s coming.

We may arrive at 2020 and wish to be back here, now. How often do we pine for bygone eras? Losses may also come in the next few years which at this present stage we’re not prepared for. We may be blessed with higher duties but, with them, onerous responsibilities. Who’s alive now that might be dead then? Could it even be us?

Helps us appreciate what we have now doesn’t it? Enjoy them now; we don’t know what might change, how or when.

Not that we should live in fear. Enjoy the now, but in the light of the considered adornment of the future. Let’s be as ready as we can be.
